Spring and Warmer Weather

 Good Morning Friday,

Hope you live where there were no destructive storms in your area. We had several storms here but the worse of those were in other areas in Missouri. We did get lots of rain though and strong winds.

I got a lot of grass cut before all the rain, today I will get out and finish that up and then get back to digging out that mint.

Just before the rains came in I went down in our basement and brought up the two big clay pots with the amaryllis bulbs  and also last year's geranium. This is the first time I had wintered over a geranium but know many do this-so far nothing happening-but yesterday I started seeing green sprouts on the amaryllis bulbs Always so exciting!

This first one has two "baby" bulbs that started last year

Enjoy your Friday and weekend

Friday evening update: I got lots accomplished outdoors today-always a good feeling. Just saw the weather-not good-major storms coming through-large hail very strong winds-flooding with lots of rain-praying we get missed and all are safe

Saturday morning-that was a doozy of  a storm-no hail thank goodness  a lot of hard rain and wind. and we did lose our electric early around 8 pm-came back on around 4 am  Now to reset the tv's since we have streaming-that can go well or not-smiles  Love the streaming service but can be a real challenges sometimes to get reset.   Hoping everyone is safe that had this storm too

  2. I hope your streaming reset went as well as can be expected. Personally, my smart television has too many options and I always have trouble figuring them out.

  4. Dear Kathy, Viola sends her warmest greetings.
I hope your TV is working perfectly again and that you're enjoying a lovely Sunday.
I just put some oatmeal cookies in the oven…
Enjoy your amaryllis; I'm curious to see what color it will turn.
    All the best! Warmest regards.

  6. Congrats on the Amaryllis!! I don't have a place with good light they have been a struggle for me to grow since i moved here.. A couple of small but feisty storms went through us rain/wind/ pea size hail not too bad and gave some much needed rain.. I'm quickly getting behind on the mowing/weedeating.. I have seen geraniums over wintered two ways... not that i've done either one..
.... When i was a teenager there was a nice old man that had a garage that he kept warm with a pot bellied stove and he had strings strung up and had geraniums tied to them upside down by the roots..
... And i've heard you can put them in brown paper bags... Hope yours comes back!! Hugs! deb

    1. Thank you for the tips on the geranium I just kept mine in the pot and in the basement with the amaryllis pots. so far no new growth I have full sun coming in on the lake side during the morning so I placed them there for now-with these cold nights happening.
I looked out at the grass by the lake this morning-and everything I had cut just a couple days ago now needs cutting again ugh oh well it is spring--happy new week hugs

  7. Its good you were able to get outside before those storms move in. We have some rain forecasted for the next three days, so we're trying to get ahead of that ourselves. You take care, Kathy.

  8. Kathy so glad you stayed safe during the storm. They have been really bad everywhere. So far we have only had gusty winds and a few thunderstorms. Hope you are not working too hard. Yeah! your amaryllis bulbs look like they are doing well. I have not had one in years and sad to say it only bloomed that first year. Pray yours does real well. We are under a freeze watch tonight. Afraid our fruit (apples) will get bit badly. Went from wearing shorts on Thursday to getting out my winter coat this morning. So it is with spring. Take care friend. Hugs!

  9. I've just spent an enjoyable time catching up here, all the way from Route 66 to now. Time certainly has gotten away from me. Our weather has been all over the page with storms to picture perfect days. Today is picture perfect so I am all about doing outside things. Good luck with the mint. I usually put all mints in containers but there's one clump of cat mint growing unhindered. I must correct that. I love bee balm but most varieties do get very large. Somehow I ended up with a much smaller one that I am loving. I am mixing in some vegetables with flowers this year. Take care, and enjoy the pleasant days.

    1. Good evening Mary, our weather is all over the place too-just found out from a newsletter I get in my email about the lake here-that my city had two bad tornadoes near me-my little area here was safe but we did lose the electric for several hours. I did a lot of work most of today in the garden area. now my lower back is not too happy-I got 3 small bee balm plants in the mail today-I think I will place them in one my large garden tubs for now so I can keep an eye on them better-enjoy our spring weather-hugs

  10. Great that you accomplished so much in the garden. Yes, very satisfying.
We've had some terrible weather too and my house suffered some damage. I had packed up the garden furniture as it has a purpose made cover. The cover got damaged of course with the wind but the furniture did not blow away. I have three large terraces and a small patio. I still have all the furniture. Only the tiles on the top terrace got busted. On Sunday a handy-man friend came to fill in the holes in the tiles.
We also get powercuts due to bad weather, and like you it is always a bother to re-set my tv after that. My Internet is curtesy of Mr Musk (Starllink) and that never goes off but it does need power of course. The wind has also blown my receiver off course. Another friend has fixed that so it won't move again.
    Happy T-Day,
    Lisca

    1. Hi Lisca, Wow sorry you went through so much storm damage-spring is usually when most of those strong winds show up. I did just read yesterday that my city that I live in had two tornadoes and caused a lot of damage on the lake-so glad we missed that.
Glad you have handymen to help you out. awesome you have starlink. stay safe hugs and Happy Tuesday

  11. How come I´m always late?! Your new blog-title? I really must... learn it! Great with the flowers. My friend "freed" my Christmas-amaryllis and I hope that flower makes it, too! To Spring, hugs to you and the lake.

  13. I am late catching up with blogs because of our riverboat trip, but glad that you did not get kit with any big storms, Kathy. We have had chilly tempos and rain today and more rain is forecast for next week but no serious storms, thankfully. I only had an amaryllis plant years ago and wasn't successful in getting it to re-bloom, so good for you with yours.

    1. Good evening, I am anxious to read more about your river boat trip-that sounded really special. we have more rain coming in-so thankful we missed the severe storms here where we live-there were 2 tornados that touched down near us on the lake. I have enjoyed these bulbs through the years very much-the older one with two off shoot bulbs doesn't like it will bloom this year at least so far no flower stem

  14. Sorry to be so late coming by. I'm really curious about your geraniums. I tried pulling the roots on mine and leaving them in the basement for the winter. I hope yours grow back. I hope you haven't had any storms since you published this the other day too. hugs-Erika

    1. good morning, I have never wintered over a geranium before but online friend Cathy living on the east cost does this all the time with success. I placed it outdoors last night to benefit from the rain-we had bad storms around us again but not us-thankful hugs

  15. So glad your amaryllis is waking up.
Those first green sprouts always feel like a little victory after winter!
Sounds like you managed to get a lot done outdoors despite the wild weather.
Hope the storms stay kind to you and your streaming behaves itself this time!
