I had never heard of this illness before-it's really bad so thought I would share.
This is what the CDC says My husband has been so ill with severe uncontrolled diarrhea Late yesterday he was talking with a friend of his on the phone in Pennsylvania-told him about it and friend said that's going around and it's called noro virus.
It comes in on food the mail etc. Studying what to do hand sanitizers based in alcohol are totally useless-so thinking what is the point of those?-but clorox wipes will kill it. I did look online and there is a spray you can buy that kills it but I wouldn't get that for several days.
Of course I have been doing tons of laundry for several days now. needs hot water and a hot dryer-I don't wash things in hot water but I did do all the towels etc used in hot water after learning about this.
This virus will last one to three days. Larry's health is already compromised-one bad lung from his younger days of deep sea diving, 10% heart function and more health issues. Today is the third day so I think this is the turning point-I finally got sleep (was up helping him most every hour the last several nights, and he got a bit more as well.
Once I knew what we were dealing with I grabbed the clorox wipes and wiped down everything we touch-phones, computer keyboards, door handles etc etc. I will do this again today.
I don't feel great mostly do to lack of sleep, but so far have not gotten this. We don't have anyone coming in to the house-won't get physical therapy back for a couple months, and we have no visitors that see us so this came in with our mail I am thinking or food.
Hoping now we can both catch up on much needed sleep
Noro virus is bad. I think it's also common on cruise ships. Take care of yourself too Kathy so you don't catch it as I believe it's very contagious. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeletegood morning, yes I read it is very contagious, I don't feel good but hoping it is mostly lack of sleep, no diareha thank goodness
DeleteI wouldn't wish a noro virus on my worst enemy! Take care of yourself.
ReplyDeletethank you
DeleteKathy…since Larry doesn’t mingle with people it might not be noro-virus. That is extremely contagious where there are people and is the reason cruise ships are extremely susceptible. Many have died. If I were you I would not assume it’s that. Larry needs to see a doctor for the definite diagnosis of such a serious symptom.
ReplyDeleteAbove from Barb
ReplyDeletethank you Barb, when I was reading about it-this virus comes in on fresh foods etc and also mailed packages I get a lot of packages in the mail as it is easier on me and usually less expensive since we just have a few rural stores nearby. I will start wearing gloves for packages and discard packagin right away
DeleteHe is much better this morning
Oh i'm so sorry Kathy... Alvin had this last year and it ended him in the Emergency Room for dehydration.. They gave him a virus panel and it tested positive for noro virus .. the year before he got roto virus... both bad both ended him in the ER... Both times i did not get it either.. .i felt a little under the weather but like you i think it was mostly from lack of sleep... I don't know why it seems we always decide the ER is needed at 2 in the morning.. !! I could not get him to drink enough fluids.... he would just say why when i'm just going to put it right back out? But you have to .... Man! you make want to go wipe down my house with Clorox wipes.... ! I hope you both feel better soon! And i hope you don't get it.. !!! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteI was pushing liquids-water-on Larry too and he wasn't having it-that's men. smiles. I was glad to read that clorox wipes will kill this-so I am going to wipe down everything that we touch a lot again today. I always keep those on hand. I was so surprised about the hand sanitizers being useless-I will not replace the ones I have going forward
DeleteI also learned that OdoBan disinfectant kills this virus as well-I always keep that on hand and buy the one with lavender-so I sprayed the house with that too yesterday and will again today
DeleteWell wishes to hubby
ReplyDeletethank you Christine-have a good new week ahead
DeleteAs a daycare provider for years, the Norovirus can shut down a daycare fast! It's hard on the infants and little ones. I had it once and it was bad. I think the 30 years of daycare and being a nanny exposed me to alot, because I don't sick every year anymore and I'm almost 72. But I know that won't last. I hope Larry gets well.
ReplyDeletethank you Debby he is doing better today so far
DeleteI hope this is the turning point of Larry feeling better. Take care of yourself too.
ReplyDeletethank you yes taking care of ourselves is the difficult part
