Sharing a Book-The Sound of Music-The Memories Before and After& Update-music

I just finished reading this biography about the real family behind the film and play The Sound of music

This book was listed in an email from Amazon and at the time I bought it for my Kindle it was on sale during the holidays.

Very little of the film is true and is why one of the children decided to write this book, but after she realized the play and film brought so much joy to it's viewers she softened on the story told. What really surprised me is that the  author noted that the song Edelweiss in the movie is Not the anthem of Austria

This book for me, was well written and so interesting that I read the book in just a few sittings. Sadly her mother signed papers without reading and understanding so they received very little money from the film or the play.

Sunday evening

I have been curious about their singing and found this album of their folk songs

  2. love Love , LOVE the movie... i think i knew all the things you pointed out about it..... except maybe the Edelweiss song... its romantic to think its their national anthem...i'am rather romantic and wish now i didn't know that its not...lol You know how they make videos showing how a movie was made... how they did the special effects?? I never watch those... i don't want to destroy the magic... Hugs! deb

  3. This sounds great. I always loved the film, and wondered about the family and how true it is to the film. Thanks Kathy. I'm adding this to my wish list. hugs-Erika

  5. It's a fascinating real story. There have been documentaries on the real Trapp family. But it's a real shame that they never got any royalties for their story.
Yes, I knew that Edelweiss was not the Austrian anthem. Just watching ski championships or the like, you get to hear the national anthem of a country, and it is not that.
    Have a lovely weekend,

    1. Good morning, I was really surprised about them not using the real national anthem. I had no idea that the family toured and did so many music concerts-around 20 years-I need to search online for them to hear their music. enjoy your weekend too-it's been raining most of the night and morning so far here-thankful it is not snow

  6. I did know the movie was not exactly the true story of the Von Trapp's, but they had to embellish it in a way to have folks go see it. Same with Shirley Muldowney the first female race car driver. She lived close to where I grew up. I even went to school with her son John. We were friends. They embellished so much of her story...yet I knew what was true and not. Janice

  9. I've read quite a lot about The Sound of Music (Including Maria's two autobiographies) and some others that revealed similar information as this. This one sounds very good.
