Sunday in the Art Room

I am loving Nicole's link up, so thought I would join in.

Probably about 4 years ago, I had done a really good cleaning and straightening up in my art/craft room and had shared a post about it.

It is time for another good clean up and a purge of some items-I have too many books again, so will be donating those to the animal shelter's  re sale shop this year. I usually try not to have much on the floors, and I have that again.

This is a smaller room than what I had at the woods home, but this one includes a closet and a stairway up into the attic-which I filled with more books, batting for quilts, and tubs of cotton fabrics for quilts, and bags of fibers to spin.

I never cared for a room to be this packed-but I am comfortable in it.

I have a sewing space, spinning space, a small antique school desk (from my hometown high school-they upgraded to modern desks) which is the rug hooking spot with my Mom's wool cutter.  We have collected old trunks through our married years-so I kept most of them that I could fit in this space when we moved from the woods home. There are four back to back vintage trunks filled with weaving yarns, notions, and more. Also a huge chest trunk filled with leather scraps.

A lot of memories included-both Grandma's sewing supplies, my Mom's sewing supplies, even a few things from my little sister-that lost her life too soon from a drunk driver right after she graduated college. She was always my best friend.

When you walk into this room-this is to the right-this is a Navajo rug I bought when I lived in Colorado in the late '70's This size was all I could afford at the time-and it was $75.00 Not sure why I remember the price but it was a lot of money for me back then and I really wanted one of these rugs

Photos will enlarge just click on them

Here is a photo of the vintage cabinet below above it has a porcelain top   To the right is the old school desk and a rug hooking project-with a jeans jacket on top waiting to be repaired

We found this solid oak desk made in Indiana (my home state) that has a rubber type top-perfect for a craft/art desk-I do have on top of this a huge cutting mat.

To the left of this desk is my sewing area, another window, below that the huge trunk with leather, behind desk two stand up trunks opened up that have drawers and the other side more storage

That piece in the middle was my grandmothers-like an accordion both sides fold out-this is filled with beads On top of the leather are bags of fibers for spinning

and I forgot more smaller trunks up on top-fibers and yarn

Below is a look into the closet-to the right is the steps to the attic filled with fibers and quilting fabrics, and my mini Christmas tree and ornaments in a big plastic storage box

When I upload my photos to the computer-they are Never in order so have to hunt through all my photos sigh
This photo is to my left when I walk into this room-filled with industrial shelving-which are filled with all sorts of books, paper making supplies, soap making supplies, dye supplies, and more
This handmade sweet doll was a gift from my art blogging friend  The long yardsticks are all vintage

Below piece is to the left in front of trunks as I walk into the room-Larry traded for this piece. Was handmade and full of little deep drawers. I have them filled with buttons. Vintage crochet pieces on top. and that dish was by the pioneer women to hold deviled eggs. After I had purchased a few of her dishes, I learned these do not have safe colors and glazing for foods--so I use this for gathering buttons and beads for a project

Below is the space to my left when I walk into the room I need to work on getting projects on the floor put away.

There are two of these painted on the walls in front of my desk-I loved them so kept them. The young daughter that lived here before me became a professional commercial artist

I apologize again for the poor photos-not sure what to do to upgrade my camera-they are so poor quality these days unless I want to spend big dollars, and I don't use a cell phone at all but those probably take better photos

On my desk right now. Played with my Crayola pens again last night-practicing flowers

Welcome and thank your for visiting

  1. Enjoyed peeking into your craft room. I wish that I had a dedicated craft room. You are getting quite good at your flower designs. keep up the great work. It is very thereputic...at least for me it is. The one side of our guest room is where I store my cross stitching supplies and patterns. I keep my wool in a cabinet and totes in the closet. Was hoping Bob would hurry up and redo our laundry room so I could stash stuff in there better. Still waiting though. LOL Janice

    1. Good afternoon Janice, I never had a dedicated art/craft room til we retired back in 2000 before that we both worked soooo many hours no time at all for fun stuff. Thank you about my flowers-I am going to try next with paints and see if I can improve that way too.
I learned years ago to Not store wools etc in plastic-I have always stored in these trunks, or in cotton pillowcase bags. I do have a couple of those big rubber-plastic tubs for some of my fabrics. but wool I had read on a forum not not store in plastics
always hard to get to those projecs-hugs

  2. Ohhh my goshhhhh!!!!! Your spaces are fabulous. I really like how you have designated places for each art. Your cabinates and desk are to live for..... for sure. I see so much in your photos and revel in all of your supplies. That Native blanket is a treasure as is that little doll. I am so impressed with all of your supplies and the space you have. Thank you so much for sharing with SITAR. P.S. my house is dark and I have to put my photos through adobe to make them look better.

    1. Thank you Nicole-this is all years of gathering-and I still have many items from my family members too. My Mom always told me to stick to one thing and excel--what is the fun in that? haha I am most comfortable and best with fiber arts but I really want to be able to paint better. I will check into a photo program thank you

  3. You have a lovely space, Kathy. I simply love all the trunks and of course they are perfect for your fabrics etc. The Navajo rug of course caught my eye - it is beautiful. Those things are so expensive. And your Kokopelli is lovely as well.
About the camera - a really good small camera is the Canon Powershot Point and Shoot. There are several models available, even very small ones. Maybe an option for you would be to buy a refurbished or used one? B&H has a used store, https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/browse/photography/ci/6387/N/4294246666. It might be worth to look at it.

    1. Thank you Carola, I think the camera you mentioned is a good one but expensive. I had a small digital camera when we first retired and it lasted almost 20 years-was so sad to see it go. the one I have takes horrible photos indoors. I will check on your link for a used one.
Thanks for the name Kokopelli as I forgot the name of those they make me happy when I see them. I have always loved the Navajo rugs-fibers all hand spun too and very fine yarn-amazing work.
