Good morning, watching the weather forecast yesterday-Wow a lot of our country is in for an arctic blast along with lots of snow and/or ice.
Where we live on Lake in the Ozarks-we are on a line to either get lots of ice and snow-or perhaps not much at all. If we do - it will be the first of this winter. However the arctic blast with temps in the minus is scary for sure. I will be praying we and You do not lose our electric We live in an area that is mostly seasonal for those having homes here-so this area would not be a priority to get the lights back on.
I did get to Wal mart for food shopping yesterday-it was the warmest day for a couple of weeks now-in the mid '40's and we were in the mid '30's the night before-so I was not too worried about my old car starting. It is a 1999 Mountainer
This reminds me of the rough winter we had at the woods home over 20 years ago-19 days with no electric service and everything covered in thick ice. We had wood stoves for heat back then and my old Wolf commercial stove did not need electric to use-like gas stoves do now-so we were ok, and we had a generator for a little light in the evenings-and so I could use my computer to pay bills. Sadly over the years I have lost most of my photos-I had some beautiful ones of the thick ice on trees etc.
Today I am getting all the laundry caught up, and clean up the house-dusting and vacuuming. I may fill up large pans of water for flushing the toilet and doing dishes if the lights go out.
Sending prayers that we all will be safe from harm-are you ready for this arctic blast? and some of us getting lots of ice and snow-thick ice is the scary part.
They are predicting -28 to -30 wind chill temps on Saturday for us. UGH I hope everyone does stay safe as most of the country is going to get slammed with ice, snow and cold arctic air. Janice
ReplyDeletescary for sure-this is the first home we ever lived in that is all electric and no working woodstove-we always a way to cook food and stay warm before-I am a bit concerned for sure
DeleteWe're due for it too with icy wind chills and some snow later today. I'm getting out this morning to pick up some Rx and also check groceries. Hopefully, we won't lose power or heat; just be bloody cold! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteStay warm and safe hugs
DeleteWelp.... as ready as can be... We hope and pray the electric does not go out... We have no back up so fireplace or woodstove... Its only for the weekend here... that we don't come above freezing Monday is up in the 40's Tues... 50's below freezing at night but if we can get a warm up during the day then we'll do good... I hope the worst of the ice stays away... some snow would be nice... :)I just hope TX keeps the power running.. Our lowest temp is Sat night and Sun night.. 10F .. Stay safe Kathy! I'll be thinking of you! I think it will be the perfect time to start my woodburning project... keep me warm...lol Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteGood idea with your wood burning project Smiles we are so not prepared-after Larry's bad fall over 2 years ago-projects stopped here-I wanted a gas stove and I want to get this chimney fixed so we can burn wood in the woodstove that's here--I am going to go out in the garden shed today and grab a bag of charcoal-for cooking on the grill brrrr I hope we don't lose the electric but the lines do not like wind below 0 and ice. We will be in the minus temps over the weekend this reminds me of that bad one we went through already at the woods house
Deletestay safe and warm hugs
Like you.... i do up the laundry and dishes... i should fill a couple buckets with water just in case... i keep reminding myself we are only talking two days below freezing... the way the internet is talking its like its Armageddon... We are fine on groceries .. have a few meals planned because we won't be venturing out on the roads.... could see some ice and/or snow... Eldest is coming over to play after school ...usually on Friday but Friday is a little too iffy with the weather.. If it wasn't getting so cold some snow might be fun!!! Hugs! deb

ReplyDeleteIt is-are you getting this in Canada too?
DeleteEven though the snow isn't supposed to reach our side of the state until Saturday the grocery store was extra busy today with people stocking up.
ReplyDeleteSame here yesterday when I went-the store's parking lot was really full of cars
DeleteKathy, the forecast here is that snow could start late Sunday night and go into Monday and that it will be a light snow because of the cold temps. I did watch news reports earlier today which predicted ice storms in many southern states and hope they do not get that weather terribly bad. I can understand your concern about a loss of power as that's all that we have here in the mill apartment. It's good that you stocked up on items, just in case the worst weather does hit your area.
ReplyDeleteI don't feel prepared not having a generator here-to keep the well going and the heat especially I am used to preserving foods in the past so it is kinda in my dna haha my Mom grew up on a working farm I think the worst of it is coming Sunday here as well
DeleteI just filled two buckets with water if the power goes-at least we can flush! My husband just had hernia surgery so I will be the shoveler! Praying for safety for everyone!
ReplyDeletewill be filling up buckets of water as well here too. Stay safe and healing prayers for your Husband
DeleteWe have been working for days trying to get ready for the approaching winter storm. It will be so hard on the cattle; hoping we can keep water and feed out for them. Maybe I will just go hibernate with the bears and when I wake up all of this will be over. I am also praying for safety for everyone.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary, yes that is a huge job-taking care of your cattle-hoping we don't get lots of snow and/or ice I am really not up to all that shoveling this year. stay safe and warm-hugs
