Good morning Saturday,
I have been reading about more issues with Blogger. A couple of my blogging friends have shared some major issues they are having-one through email and one on her blog this morning.
Sounds like these issues are getting worse here on Google One friend mentioned it's been 8 years since any maintenance -which I had thought was the issue as well. If this goes away or gets so it is impossible to use that will be it for a blog platform I am thinking for me.
I don't have the knowledge to figure out how to make my own blog-and there is not much in choices any more for a blog platform to switch to. I am also thinking most people now are on places that are not blogging platforms like Facebook-Instagram etc. I tried to get on Truth Social but one has to have a cell phone to use
I never liked Word Press but I had an account there just so I could read a friend's posts A year or so ago I got a note I had to pay for my blog site so I canceled my account there. Word Press has it set up you can sign in with Facebook etc to comment but that has never worked for me.
When I first got into blogging probably around 2003 when I retired-- I found Multiply I loved that site it was before Facebook arrived. The site was ahead of it's time and had everything-storage for photos, messenger, blog, and selling. The owners got greedy and sold it off to another company that got rid of everything except for the selling portion. We were all devastated. Facebook came on the scene around that time which I have Never liked. I only keep that for an author group I follow. and friends message me there on their cell phones-otherwise I would get off of there. For me Facebook is mostly toxic-when I scroll through most things posted are untrue. My own opinion
I had heard of Blogger when I was looking for a blog platform after Multiply-so I had transferred all of my content to here. Over the years with issues with Blogger I have lost all of my content and started new a few times now
I am on Instagram which is nice for sharing photos and a little content with the photos. That will probably be where you can find me when Blogger eventually goes down. This is my Instagram page Instagram is set up for cell phones not computers so I am limited a bit there but I can still make it work.
I am really thinking as much as I enjoy a blog for sharing with others-blogs are in the past which actually in my opinion began when Facebook appeared. Over half of my blogging friends closed their blogs and went on Facebook instead. In my opinion most of my friends enjoyed it's platform as you could just scroll and like everything instead of writing content.
Times have changed-over the years since I have been retired Tech has changed in my opinion do to most being absorbed with their cell phones. for everything. I have always refused to be tied to a phone.
I also think we may want to share another online site where we can still follow each other-such as Instagram-I have just a handful of blogging friends now but would still enjoy being connected.
Thoughts??
Yes I have many blog friends that no longer use the platform. It is sad, but I will continue on as I do not like Facebook. Janice
ReplyDeleteI do Not like facebook at all either I keep mostly for the author group I like
DeleteI have you on Instagram but will probly stay on blogger till the end-Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeletefor sure I prefer a blog platform--after I wrote this post more issues occurred here-so can't post here now-google just takes me to my deleted blog which says deleted haha I have the link to this blog saved only way I can get here
DeleteI have never tried Instagram but my daughter is mainly on that platform... I think i joined blogger in 2008... and i have had to restart several times.. I've known for a while now that they are not doing maintenance on it and really its just a matter of time before it goes belly up.. My interest in blogging and making posts is at an all time low.. i'm sure you can tell by how little i post anymore.. But i would hate to lose the few bloggy friends i have.. Thankfully most of them have become snail mail friends too.. :)... If and when something ends blogger i may check out Instagram.. I can remember the 'hey day' of blogs... it was so fun... but i don't think we'll ever get back there.. Hugs! deb
ReplyDeletegoogle is really messed up my blog now--so will see what happens. probably will post more on Instagram going forward
DeleteGoogle is not recognizing this blog-just goes to the deleted blog-craziness. I will be posting more on Instagram going forward-link on top right
ReplyDeleteI have this one bookmarked only way I can get it-so right now can't post here
DeleteOh no...I'm not sure about Instagram. I will probably just write to my friends that I have here. I don't like Facebook either. I've been blogging since 2008-it's how I learned to use my computer.
ReplyDeleteSmiles-me as well I really enjoy blogging but blogger has given me major issues and I am tired of it Instagram I can share photos and post a bit there as well with conversation
DeleteI have had a blog here since around 2005 I think. this was my third attempt to get a blog working and it has failed today although thankfully letting me comment today usually it is a struggle to leave comments
DeleteI have never had one major problem with Blogger in 18? 19? years. Well, once they weren't notifying me when I had comments so I ended up moderating and periodically have to check to make sure they are sending me things, but that's really minor. No trouble adding photos, editing, fonts, commenting on others. Zip. I don't like instagram. It's pretty but I find it cold -- not a place to really connect, just see things. I only go there to see certain people, and that rarely. FB has become such a mess with ads, I actually have to look people up to see if they've posted, but I'll keep with it because I can do that. Substack is interesting to me but I suspect it's a pay platform. I will not have ads or ask people to pay to read my blog. I used to be a contributor to an online zine on WP and I found the program clunky to use, but maybe that's just my needing to adapt and not doing as often as blogger. My reading list and visiting stats have increase in recent years, for whatever reasons, and right now follow about 60-70 different blogs, all with pretty rich content. I have no plans to drop my blog.
ReplyDeleteI love blogging but google doesn't like me and my blog I guess. this blog was my third attempt to get something working-and today after this post-it won't let me in to post at all-so I am done I think. glad everything is working well here for you as I so much prefer blogging. I do not like facebook at all either. I will just keep this up for now to see if they fix anything so I can post a blog again I will see how Instagram works out-I really don't have many followers there so will see waht develops
DeleteI’ll keep blogging, backing everything up so I’m ready with an alternate when the time comes. I might lose followers, but I don’t have any truly loyal ones. They come and go. Writing helps me clear my head, (keeps me sane) and getting my thoughts out in a post is what matters most. If someone reads it, that’s a bonus, but deep down it doesn’t matter. I won’t use Facebook because I enjoy writing and the creative process it brings.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you have always enjoyed having my blog right now google is really messing with me can't post a blog now but I can comment finally haha thanks for visiting
DeleteYou are absolutely right. There are lots of untruths posted on Facebook. I agree with Debby's comment above. I also have had no trouble with blogger. I hope you will stay.
ReplyDeleteI do want to stay as I love blogging-but right now google won't let me post a blog entry will wait and see what happens-right now will use Instagram for a bit
DeleteBlogger seems to be going OK for me. It has moments, but those aren't all that often. Facebook is full of adds and people publishing dumb things. But I do have a few people I keep in touch with that way, although I never post myself. And I don't go on everyday. But I'm not one who wants to get involved with lots of different social media. At least on blogger I can keep a journal versus the little blips. That's where I stand on that issue. Have a super weekend. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with about facebook I rarely post there anymore. I love my blog format the best-will see if google will allow me to post tomorrow hugs thanks for commenting
DeleteThank you all for comments and input will have to see if google fixes things for me to post (Kathy)
ReplyDeleteI mainly keep my Facebook account because some of the extended family prefer to use that for messaging, but it certainly doesn't lend itself to creative writing like a blog does.
ReplyDeleteagree
DeleteYou make a really thoughtful point. Technology has definitely changed the way people connect, and many of us miss the slower, more personal feeling that blogging communities once had. There’s something refreshing about not wanting to be constantly attached to a phone all day.
ReplyDeleteI also think your idea about staying connected through another platform is a good one. Even if blogging habits change over time, the friendships and shared interests don’t have to disappear. Platforms like Instagram can help people keep in touch, share updates, and continue supporting each other’s creative lives. It may not feel exactly the same as the older blogging days, but maintaining those connections is what really matters.
Blog not working-happy Mother's Day to all of you Mothers
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy, thank you for sharing this. I don't plan on leaving Blogger. I am not interested in trying Instagram or any of the other platforms. I know that some people have and some will, but I really want to stay even though there are issues. I have been told by a few people who do use other platforms that there are issues there as well.
ReplyDeleteWarm hugs to you, dear friend.
good morning I so much prefer blogging-have enjoyed a blog since retirement around 2003 google is not recognizing this blog at all so can't get in to write a post still I have restarted my computer-run a scan for issues-nothing works google only takes me to my original blog that has been deleted-craziness. but when I comment then it recognizes this blog.
DeleteI have had an account on instagram for awhile now-learned how to not see what I don't want to--not much interaction there but am working on commenting more to hopefully get responses back not much I can do sadly
I forgot to mention. I closed my Facebook account a year ago after decades because it was getting discouraging with all the negativity. I haven't missed it.
ReplyDeleteFacebook is a horrible place I have never once liked it there but since I don't use cell phones several friends message me there I visit my book group once a week or so as that is not very active any more I would not miss it at all I should just tell my friends to call me on our house phone instead and delete it
DeleteKathy, it is unfortunate to read that blogger is giving you such issues so much so that you are thinking about giving up. Like Jeanie commented above, I have only had minor issues, usually with photos. Like yourself, I am not interested in FB and have never tried Instagram or anything similar. I will continue on blogger until the end or until I lose interest altogether. Years ago, Patrick, my husband (aka Grenville) was also posting, but he has rarely does now.
ReplyDeleteGood morning-I sooo prefer blogging but google is not letting me in to write a post any more. when I try to do that google shows only the blog that was deleted but recognizes this blog for commenting total craziness. I will keep this up so I can visit friends google is soooo frustrating friends can comment here if they want to interact with me
DeleteYuppsi, blogger chose to delete a post (I think, or was it my mistake?). It´s like my life from 2006 on is on there. When I started I used HTML only, now I only use that when I have to cause the created code is weeeee-so bad!
ReplyDeleteBut... it´s for free... I do hope they stick along. I´m not at Instagram. maybe should have a look! Hugs to you and the lake.
I am no tech person but google now only recognizes my deleted blog will not take me to this blog to write a post-so frustrating. not crazy about instagram but not much I can do--I am Not going to start a 4th blog that's for sure you can still message me on facebook-I don't like it there at all but I keep it for the messages and an author group hugs
DeleteMy dear Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI only have my blog. I do not like FB and other platforms. My sister made the blog for me, as I am not a technology expert. Never tried Instagram, etc. Hope that you will not close your blog, or that you will make a new one. I always love visiting your posts.
But even if we cannot meet in blogland, hope that our snail mails will be continued.
Well, it is difficult now as I cannot send anything to the US, neither receive anything from the US, due to the taxes of Mr T. But, at least, we are allowed to send and receive letters, documents.
Big hugs, my friend.
Hi Mia, I am no tech person either and google no longer has any support for issues like this. at least I can still visit and comment. Yes I will continue letter writing I enjoy that very much hugs
DeleteIt has been a few days now-google still will not let me in to write a new post
ReplyDeleteI was looking around for a different blog platform haven't found one yet but this was on the list Direct alternative to: whatever the top solution was back in 1999, I guess.
ReplyDeletePlease don’t use it.
I’m only listing it here since I know some of you will ask about it.
It’s 2026, and there really is no reason to use a blogging platform invented in 1999 that hasn’t really been updated since.
For everything that Blogger does, any of the other platforms on this list do better.
