Heart Ornaments

Good Morning, do you celebrate Valentine's Day with some decorating, that special date or dinner?

I used to do a little something-like a favorite meal, but have not decorated much. In the past for my slow mail friends I would send off a big heart-this year not very inspired I guess.

I was chatting in messages over on Etsy with a shop I had purchased from - remember when I used to dye a lot of leaf prints-onto fabrics and on papers?-well I have run out of my own and wanted a few pieces for the slow stitch bags so bought some of hers. She mentioned if I was familiar with Sue Spargo-Yes but had totally forgotten about her.

Sue Spargo creates gorgeous stitches many on wool. So I found her online and subscribed on her social media for stitching inspiration.  She is sharing a heart tree here   with all the stitches and information needed to create.

Here is a photo of her project

These little hearts would be a fun project to use up fabrics in one's stash.

Over the weekend I started on the second dragonfly sashiko piece. So far I am very unhappy with it. Some of the colors are not showing up well on the off white background..  I asked a couple esty sellers that were selling this for color choices. One mentioned many like to use all indigo thread on the white background.  I am thinking of taking out what I have done and try that-thinking it will look better. Will try to save the threads for another project-as they are more expensive than embroidery threads.

At the time I bought the threads-online-I didn't know that there are different thickness's of these threads-I don't live near any business that sells these-so this is an issue on this piece too as I change up the colors.

This afternoon I finally have my dentist appointment-I am thinking this may get pulled out-as I had issues with it last year.

Happy Monday-enjoy your day

  2. We will celebrate Hearts Day, which is what I like to call Valentine's Day, here at home with a nice dinner of filet mignon, asparagus and some roasted potatoes. THi is one holiday that we never go out to celebrate because too many others will be out and about and restaurants will be crowded. Sorry to read that your dragonfly sashiko piece isn't going well. Hope the dentist visit isn't too painful or costly.

    1. when we were younger I always made a special meal we never go out to eat anymore I took a color and changed that one on the dragonfly piece-liking it better now. I love the dentist I found he needed to take out a back molar-and fill a cavity on another tooth-and I have another tooth that needs to come out but so far not bothering me--all the numbing medicine is just about gone now around 10 pm so far not too bad

  4. Oh I like Sue Spargo. I am familiar with some of her pieces. The hearts are cute, but I don't really decorate for Valentine's day. Nor do we really do much for her holiday either. It's not that I don't like it, but we celebrate little things all year long and at Valentine's Day it just seems like everything is either busy or costs a lot more than the same thing on any other day. I hope the dentist went well. hugs-Erika

  5. I agree with you, those hearts would be a lovely little projects. I'm always happy to find small projects that I can use for leftover yarn - little cats and birds is what I usually do. I tried a heart once, but it turned out all wonky. Might be a good idea to try again.

  7. Kathy been catching up reading your last couple of posts...your pillows are gorgeous. You are always keeping busy making something lovely and delightful. I like the heart project...it is so nice to see something that brightens up our winter days. We actually got to about 53 today...wow amazing after 14 degrees below zero Sunday morning. I know the temps will drop back into the 20's and 30's but today gave us a reprieve and sunshine. Have a wonderful Valentine's Day. Hugs!

  8. That heart tree is so cute! I have a little valentine tree in my bathroom, but that's about it. Rick makes me a wonderful dinner on Valentine's day and I may a pre-dinner or post-dinner or breakfast! Enjoy, however you celebrate!

  9. I haven't heard of Sue but i sure do like that heart tree! beautiful! I decorate for Fall and Halloween and Christmas and by then i'm pretty burned out for the rest of the Holidays... with the Grandlittles around now i really should... I might make some paper hearts and put on my dooor... lol I have sleep overs coming starting tonight... and then Friday night.. I try to do them once a month but haven't done one since Christmas... Hubby and i used to do alot more for Valentine's Day but it has slowed down over the years... One year at the beginning of our marriage he bought me a red microwave because our microwave died and we needed one and we couldn't afford to celebrate Valentines Day AND get a microwave...lol Hugs! deb

    1. Thank you Debra, I am liking the dragonfly now-almost finished with that part-took out the yellow as it was too light didn't want to buy more thread. This was a rough tooth since it was one of molars-very deep feeling it more today
