We have sunshine this morning but we woke up to below 0 F temperatures brrrr this lake house is very cold-poor insulation even though we spent a lot for attic insulation, and I do keep the thermostat down at 72-otherwise the bill is just too expensive. So I have two sweatshirts on, and since I don't wear shoes in the house I have thick wool socks and cotton socks over those.
I am seeing on the news this morning that the east coast has been hit with Lots and Lots of snow along with cold temperatures. All my friends on the east coast hoping you are safe and warm and have your electricity on. If not those with woodstoves or fireplaces at least can get some heat and cook on it too.
I did another watercolor painting over the weekend-it was so so, am also making progress on the sashiko stiches-the dragonflies. I am getting a bit better with the stitches, even though the stitches are not all the same size I am liking it.
There is a dragonfly ready to stitch inside the hoop but not showing up
Stay safe and warm

Lovely
ReplyDeletethank you-stay warm and safe
DeleteWe keep ours at 67-68 F during the Winter during the day and 65 F at night...and try to dress in the house warmer... Love your dragonflies... they are coming out so good! Keep painting and you'll soon have it back where you like it.. although i think what your doing is lovely.....:) Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteI am happy with the dragonflies too-thank you-I stopped taking out so many stitches-doesn't need to be perfect. Thanks about my painting-I really liked the background in this one-that part is getting better
Deleteour house here at the lake is so poorly insulated I would really be super cold at 68 cold air comes in most of the windows and even the walls-especially with these low temperatures but that would save money
DeleteThe sun makes such a difference, even if it is just psychological!
ReplyDeleteI'm wearing long underwear, two additional layers on top and a scarf around my neck, jeans, heavy socks, and wool slippers. Except for my feet I am quite comfortable.
I was glad too that we had sunshine today-and I did manage to shovel a bit on the steps-will get back to that tomorrow. I have extra clothes on today too so was smiling as I read this-hugs
Deleteooops this is Kathy
DeleteI hope it warms up for you soon Kathy. We turned our heat up to 72 even though we run the woodstove. That means much of the time the heat doesn't run, but the location of the woodstove in our kitchen/dining room area means it's nice and warm, but there are cold spots in the rest of the house. But, I'm not going to complain because at least even the cold spots aren't too cold. Your stitching is looking great. Again, I hope it warms up ASAP! hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI really miss not having a working woodstove-we heated only with our two woodstoves at the woods house for years-until Larry couldn't split the wood anymore. I really miss that.
DeleteSounds like you are set up pretty good I am enjoying the stitches-thank you
I'm glad you weren't hit too badly. We weren't either but like you, it's super cold. I'm at 72 also and in layers. It will pass. As long as we have power, I'm OK.
ReplyDeleteSame here I am soooo thankful we did not lose our electric-we are not set up for that here at the lake house. I think 72 is a good number-but the house was pretty cold today with the minus temps last night-I just add more clothes-and during the day Larry sits at his computer with a small electric heater-so he stays warm too
DeleteYour dragonflies are so cool! I love seeing them here in the Summer. They are suppose to be good luck. Janice
ReplyDeletethank you I love dragonflies too
DeleteI was gifted Bombas booties (not sure their real name), and wow, on the cold floor, these things hold up but good. Nice and toasty toes. Hope you stay warm the rest of the week. Very cold here and thankfully today, I don't have to leave.
ReplyDeleteThat's the best when you can stay home-that was the best thing for me when I retired back in 2003-no more long commutes to drive to work and I worked for the phone co so had to go to work no matter what booties sounds perfect
DeleteYour stitching is lovely. You are so talented in so many ways! We keep our house at about 64-we have to because we can't afford it warmer. Thankfully we are both used to it and bundle up like you do.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to answer your comment here because I was thinking maybe you wouldn't go back to my blog to read my reply-I don't ever remember to reply to comments!
I am so sorry you were treated so badly just for giving your opinions. There is a good chance I was one of those creeps that gave you a hard time. I'm hoping not-but it's certainly possible. So let me apologize right now. If I hurt you-I am sorry. I won't explain myself except to say I have learned a lot through the years, and thank God, I am hoping I can see myself more clearly now than I did in the past.
Yours and my friendship is too important to me.
Love ya!
thank you so much Debra-no you were Never rude to me, I never debate politics on here-as society is just not the same as when I grew up-we never "hated" the other side of politics. I was attacked by a handful of "friends" rudely so I just don't offer my own opinion anymore and if the posts become more political like almost every post-I just don't visit there any more.
DeleteI do the same now too try to be a better person life can be rough sometimes-but I am leaning on God more now and making time every day for art and my crafts
Hugs and love ya back
Dear Kathy, your beautiful Christmas card was in my postbox/Briefkasten today... we still have the star on the door and shining in the living room too – we'll leave it up until Candlemas on February 2nd, and then the Christmas season will truly be over. And the snow is still so lovely, making the forest and fields bright and cheerful. But I'm also looking forward to spring :-)))
ReplyDeleteWarmest regards, Kathy. Your dragonflies are beautiful. I love your embroidery. Hugs from me.
Thank you so much for your lovely card and your kind greetings. I am so happy :-)))
I am so happy the Christmas cards are finally getting through-especially the international cards as those were mailed on December 1st I have never had issues like this before. Perhaps the mail has just been swamped and they all can't keep up.
DeleteSound so beautiful there- thank you about the dragonflies-since Larry's bad fall I pretty much stopped all of my crafts and art projects-I made a promise to myself to get back to this January 1st. I found this project in my sashiko patterns and threads, and also have another dragonfly on a neutral cloth that I will stitch in greens both will be little pillows.
This makes me happy that you got my card-hugs
Small pillows are great. It's wonderful when you can finish a project.
DeleteSending you a hug.
Viola
I love the dragonflies!!! I can see those on pillows. We have had a few rough days here because of the winter storm. Precipitation first fell as snow then changed over to frozen rain and sleet over the snow. It was almost impossible to walk on come morning. The cold is the hardest thing, I think. Lots of farm buildings in this area collapsed under the weight. Hope all is good there - maybe you are stitching, or perhaps working on another painting. Sounds like a wonderful way to spend a winter's day, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteHi Mary we were sooo blessed last saturday into sunday we were to have 10 inches or more of snow and ice-it turned very windy so that storm moved on as did the ice-that would have been difficult for us if we would have lost our electric-actually we would have been trapped here. so I have been thanking God to be spared.
Deletewe did go through an ice storm soon after we moved down here and retired-that was brutal-- but we were younger and we were prepared without electric.
farm buildings collapsing would have been horrible.
I have been stitching and painting most every day I am getting ready to start a new project-I will share soon
Hi Karhy, both your stitching and painting are lovely. Hugs.
