Brrrrr we did indeed drop from the low 70's to a blustery low teens yesterday. I don't sleep when there is loud howling wind. Still low teens all today and for a couple days. We are missing the snow and ice storms-thankful for that.
I mentioned in my last post that I received Kantha recycled fabrics in my surprise Christmas box.
The fabrics are lovely and I knew nothing about these. Lots of sellers on Etsy-for these recycled scrap pieces and also full quilts which the cut up pieces are from.
Last night when I could not sleep I searched for a book and this one got high reviews The stitches remind me a little bit of Sashiko stitches. I wanted to learn about the history of this cloth-it comes from the India area.
I was internet searching for ideas what others are making with these scrap pieces-and I ran into this interesting video-this is a fabric shop selling bolts of new kantha cloth-still hand stitched with the long running stitches and this bolt of fabric has two layers. My scraps were three layers. She shows a few projects

I ran into this video-a little history of the kantha cloth and she explores the different stitches used-that I saw in the book I ordered
I didn't find as many projects as I thought I would-but I think these fabrics will be fun to create with-thanks again to my friend that gifted me a big stack. Using these in the bags I am making will work out well along with my hand dyed fabrics.
After I posted this I remembered to check on Pinterest as well-they always have lots of ideas, and yes there are quite a few project ideas there for this cloth

I love that you're looking for ways to use up smaller bits. That is fun. I had a quilt book once and it's so fun to see the bits and bobs used. Sorry about the vintage cards in the last post.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I did get a call this morning from our local postmaster. He was very nice and understanding. He did say that they do have issues from time to tome with postcards making it through a machine properly-thinking if that is the case then they need to figure out a way to handle postcards-a lot of travelers send postcards. I told him I called it in just in case a bag of mail didn't get sorted do to the holiday volume of mail and I said that's why I mailed early on the 1st and 2nd. he said actually that is no longer early any more for the christmas volume of mail these days. he apologized and was kind.

Kathy!!! I just received your letter today!! No postcard but the letter made it... 17! Girl stay warm!! We are in the 40's today brr.. but that is no 17! 31 tonight is forecasted... Love seeing you so excited about your cloth and what you will do with it.. looking forward to it.. I'm having a hard time getting in the craftroom much.. life conspires against me and artsy / craftsy stuff.. Long story short.. our microwave of just over 4 years went kaput.. You had to lift up on the door.. hold your mouth just right... stand on one foot... you get my drift to get it to run... so day after Christmas we bought a new one.. decided to forgo the $160 to install it and do it ourself... honestly after a little learning curve it wasn't too bad.. BUT as soon as we turned it on it sounded like a tank... rattling.. .power fluctuations.. sigh ... so we just uninstalled it and after we catch our breath we are taking it back to Lowe's.. and then we'll do it all over again.. More newsy stuff to tell you but i'll read your most welcomed letter and write you back! Warm hugs!! deb
ReplyDeleteWow about the microwave all the appliances here are really old and we have been in the lake house 5 years now. we are waiting for made in the usa products to be available-hoping soon as we need everything here.
DeleteGlad the letter went through-after talking with the postmaster this morning thinking perhaps some of my postcards got damaged in the machines-one would think they could provide for that. if there is a next time I will ask if they hand stamp them for me it may miss some machines? not sure.
what was the postmark on the letter? as I think I mailed those the end of the first dec week or very early second week. at least I am hearing some things are going through-finally
Yes I am looking forward to getting back to my slow stitches project-the Olympics are coming in Feb I think so I can stitch with that on the tv. I am looking forward to getting back to the bags. The most time consuming and not fun for me is the hand stitching it to become a bag.
