Feels Like Spring & This & That

For a few days we will be enjoying sunshine, no wind, and mid '70's Can't ask for better weather than that in November.

The two men we hire to help with projects were out yesterday to lay down some concrete, and work on getting the metal railing up for Larry-so he can get into his boat and go fishing. Hoping next spring.

The big white pelicans are back. They will stay here for the winter-as long as the lake does not freeze over-and then migrate in the spring.  Very fun birds to watch-they are big and clumsy but do manage to land and take off in the lake.

My camera is soooo bad for taking zoomed in photos. sigh. I told Larry I have been thinking of getting a cell phone just to have a decent camera haha.

This flock of pelicans "hung out" most of the day yesterday. Fun to watch them scoop up fish too.

I played with my watercolors a bit this week which was fun. I need to do this more often to hopefully improve-mine usually looks like children's paintings  haha

I saw on Instagram where they took a dried fall leaf and brushed the edges onto the paper to get the shape.  I messed around with colors too

This one I liked the colors I came up with

This one was going along pretty good until  a very large blob of black ink fell on the page-ugh  I got some of it off and figured I would just finish it

The next day I tried again-kinda so so  I am Not a painter but it is relaxing and fun, my pieces turn out like child's play but that's ok too.

I have been purchasing beef from  one company and my three months with discounts will be over plus they add shipping. They sell only prime cuts.  I looked into another company that also has high ratings. They offer lots of chicken choices, along with pork and beef and seafood. They have free shipping and their chicken is grass fed organic.

I just got their box in yesterday. They have excellent cold packaging like the Alaska Fish Co uses so right away I liked it better.

The issue with the chicken breasts and tenders though is the meat is not frozen in singles. So I will need to partially thaw and re freeze. Larry does not eat much these days so we split a large chicken breast.  This company also offered ground bison which I love  I chose the option of free grass fed hamburger for life-I got two packages of that. In beef I liked that they offered a chuck roast-I love to throw those in the slow cooker or in a cast iron skillet in the oven.  I also ordered a 4 pound organic free range chicken.  So we now have chicken in the freezer-smiles.

In the past I never thought about where the fresh meat comes from-just assumed it was all USA  That is not the case especially in Wal Mart stores.  I like grass fed organic as well better flavors.

I am off to take a short walk and enjoy this lovely weather

  1. Kathy has been watercoloring!!! Yeaaahhh!!! I love your brush strokes in the first 'leaves' one... And darn for that black blob of paint on the trees with the falling leaves... The tree shapes are really nice on that one and i like how you handled the falling trees... I think painting and crafting are supposed to make you feel like a kid again... ,part of the reason why we do it... So good to see you arting my friend... Too hot here 88 is the high today... We have a cool down and rain expected next week.. fingers crossed.. My beef stew turned out good and is all gone... We are having frozen pizzas with Eldest Little one tonight along with some corn and a salad... and maybe jello that she loves if i can get my act together...lol I get her off the bus today.. I had the Littlest GrandLittle last night... and she woke me up at 3:58am.. wide awake... no amount of encouragement could get her back to sleep... So we got up and colored and sat on the back porch in the cool ,dark starry night and had a cup of tea... blew bubbles... lol Then when she left about 8:30am i crawled back in bed for a few more Zzzzz's...lol Have a good day Kathy! Big Hugs! deb

    1. I think art should be fun and relaxing so that's how I treat my watercolor paintings-just to relax and have fun. Pizza sounds good. Glad you were able to catch some sleep after grandlittle woke up-sounds like a nice time though on the back porch-hugs

  2. I agree about grass fed meat. It's worth a bit more in spending to get the quality. I like your paintings, and the folkiness of them. Artist strive to get that effect! Wish we were getting your temps! It's only 40 something, but I guess that's better than 20's! Have a great weekend. I'm so happy your new blog is working for you.
